3 Quick Tips: What to do BEFORE you Meet with your Stationer
1. Do some research. I tell my clients to always do their research. Make sure you want to work with this person. Get an idea of what you want. What are the possibilities!? The more you know the easier the process will go! Interact with your favorite stationers on social media and ask questions! Read about processes and read about the different types of invitations and printing processes. ::Shameless plug:: We have some pretty amazing content on our site about this! Feel free to take a peek! I want every couple to be informed about what goes into their stationery purchase.
2. Know what you can spend and what things cost. So often couples come to me with no idea of what things cost. This goes back to research. Get on the internet and Google! (My best friend) Many vendors will at least put their starting prices on their site. This will give you a ballpark. Keep in mind that many custom design houses implement an additional design fee in addition to the cost of the actual invitations! So factor this into your budget.
3. Know your timeline AND your numbers. Let me say that again, KNOW your timeline AND your numbers! Having your details together will definitely save you time and headache. Right now I have at least three brides that are on re-order for their wedding invitations. I say it until I am turquoise in the face! Order extras and start the process with enough time. You should be ordering at least 10% extra. If you have a large guests list, order at least 15-20% extra. I have had quite a few brides under order with me this year. This is a costly mistake. You will end up paying more for reorders than if you just purchase a few extra. Many stationers, myself included will charge a fee for reorder, so make sure you check that list twice!

3 Quick Tips: How to Effectively Proofread Your Invitations

3 Quick Tips: How to Effectively Proofread Your Invitations
I think many times people disregard or underestimate the revision process. This is the key to making sure your invitations turn out beautifully. So, treat it with respect and give your revisions the time and dedication that it needs.
Here are 3 Quick Tips to make sure the process goes smoothly!
1. Who, Where, Why, When, and sometimes How! Be sure to have these key components on your invitation. Your invitations should give your guests the most amount of information about the event as possible.  Be sure that the suite has your key information and then expand on it!
2. Have an extra set of eyes read it. This is really important! I say to have at least 3 people read your entire suite. Choose people who actually care about getting it right. Do you know an English teacher or a professor? Choose them before your friend who has zero interest in your invitations!
3. Take your time and check for spelling. I think the key here is taking your time. Go through your wording with a fine tooth comb. Set aside time to do this. Don’t try and multitask on the commute home or do it at work. REALLY set aside time in a quiet place to read through everything! Your wallet and your stationer will thank you!

Making a Conscious Decision to Choose J O Y Daily!

choose joy instagram photo by pretty peacock paperie- washington d.c. wedding invitationRead more

Ok spoiler alert, im gonna get all emotional on yal!

My move to the DMV area was a lot HARDER than I thought. I dreamed of adventure, life in a big city and weekends getting day drunk at Brunch! But that was NOT the case! Reality slapped me…and slapped me hard! Besides the fact that I moved hundreds of miles away from my family and friends, my business took a huge hit. It was a lot more difficult than I originally planned getting organized. Because of this I dropped the ball with one client. Emotionally, I was a serious wreck. I felt like a complete and total failure. Mrs. Positive became Mrs. Pessimist. It was not cool and a very ugly time.

Recently, I made the conscious decision to  C H O O S E   J O Y   D A I L Y  . I think often times we all get really wrapped up in day to day life. We get so engrossed with ourselves that we fail to see the bigger picture. Which is JOY!!!!! As Americans alone, we are sooo blessed. We get to live our day to day lives in a much more comfortable and convenient way. We often forget this and take the little things for granted. When I began seeing this I immediately changed my view. I began to  A P P R E C I A T E  all the amazing things in my life!

  1. I am super blessed with a thoughtful, caring, kind, loving, and hot husband!
  2. My family is the most loving (we are seriously obsessed with each other, no lie) compassionate and supportive family I could ever ask for.
  3. My business is flipping AWESOME. How many people get to do what they love, full-time, AND get paid to do it?!?
  4. My dog is freaking cute >.< and he loves me unconditionally

So because of all these amazing things, I decided to C H O O S E   J O Y   D A I L Y ! I start each day being thankful/grateful for at least one thing (I have a WHOLE list!) and I pray. Stay close to G O D and let H I M   G U I D E   Y O U! The rest will fall into place! We don’t need to figure life out right away. The fun is experiencing everything that life throws at us! So, buckle up, roll down the windows, blast the music, sing loudly and badly and enjoy the ride!

What do you have in your life RIGHT NOW that you can be T H A N K F U L for in T H I S   M O M E N T !?

How to Perfect your RSVP Wording

How to Perfect Your RSVP Wording by Pretty Peacock Paperie – Washington D.C. Wedding Invitations

I think that many times people get so wrapped up in the design of the invitation that they in fact disregard the RSVP. This is so sad to me. The RSVP is your opportunity to really get info out of your guests. A good RSVP lets you know whether or not your guests are coming to your event. However, a  G R E A T   RSVP gives you so much more information. The whole point of the RSVP is to gather as much information about guests as possible.  Here are a couple of things to consider when crafting your RSVP wording!

  1. How many guests are coming? This is a biggie, especially in today’s modern wedding. Many of my clients do not give their guests a plus one. GASP! I know! If you are not giving guests a plus one, you should state this on the RSVP.
  2. Do you have a meal option? This should be on your RSVP. Most times you will need this information 2 weeks before your event date to confirm with the caterers. If you do have a meal option there are a couple ways to set up the wording.             Meal option RSVP wording Pretty Peacock Paperie _Washington D.C. Wedding invitationsMaybe you don’t have a meal option, but give guests an opportunity to tell you what they can’t eat. As a vegetarian, I hate when I show up to a wedding and there is absolutely nothing that I can eat. When you throw an event or a wedding YOU are the HOST. That means that you have to take care of your guests and their needs. Keep in mind most people spend a lot of money to attend a wedding. They usually buy a garment to wear, they give gifts leading up to the wedding and usually bring something to the wedding as well. They may even have to travel. This is a big commitment to take on and the least you can do as a host is make sure you have a warm entree for them. (Salad does not count as vegan/vegetarian options) My favorite way to explain this on a RSVP is like this:
